Well, bit of a breakthrough at my office. A government blog. I’ll blog and/or write about it when I have the energy, but thanks to the great support of my team and my bosses, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has a blog.

That’s right. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has a blog.

Why don’t you?

Obviously, this is a learning exercise for all of us. But we’re pretty excited.

  1. Congrats Colin,

You’re a pathfinder. I’m sure many will watch this closely.

Now, a question. It seems that the privacy commissioner has had some big issues in the past few weeks. Will you post about substantive issues as they develop, providing background and links to relevant resource material?

  2. Colin says:

We’ll certainly be posting on substantive issues, and one of my goals behind the blog is to build more reactive links among privacy advocates.

We face a natural restriction as an ombudsman: we can’t speak to ongoing investigations, points before the courts, or some policy areas.

  3. Parker says:

    Nice work, Colin.
Will you be the only person posting, or will others from your office join in?

  4. Dave says:

As a fellow government communicator (at a provincial level), congratulations! This is great to see.

My first reaction was to look to see if you had comments enabled – I’m impressed that you do.

Like Joseph, I’m interested whether you’re able to write about contentious topics through this blog.

    I’ll be watching closely!

“Lo, it is nearly 350 years that we and our fathers have inhabited this most lovely land, and never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race, nor was it thought that such an inroad from the sea could be made. Behold, the church of St. Cuthbert spattered with the blood of the priests of God, despoiled of all its ornaments; a place more venerable than all in Britain is given as a prey to pagan peoples.”
